Question 5: The Currency of The Data Economy is Traded on Trust
Who has to play by your Ag Tech Provider’s rules? As we wrap up our first week of looking at the questions a company must answer to become Ag Data Transparency, we look at this topic. Our Question 5 poses the question: Does the tech company require outside contractors that have access to user data to follow the tech company’s data policies?
While you may know and trust your Ag Tech Provider, you may not know those upstream or downstream from them. That’s why is important that tech providers be transparent about how others with who they interact respect your data. The team at Winfield United provides perspective.
“Data privacy and security fit into the same category for Winfield United, regardless of employment status. The currency of the data economy is traded on trust, and we are part of a 100-year-old company that works to earn our industry’s trust every day,” says Joel Wippenfurth, Director of Business Operations and Retail Execution at WinField United.
“It starts with people and process. Our contractors, vendors and partners all work inside a master services agreement that outlines company data policies and the importance of privacy. We make sure to educate team members on expectations. In many cases with vendors, we require separate environments and staff to work on data within our footprint.”
