Who are the primary users of the product, platform, or services?
The primary users of CROPWISE are:
(i) Growers who wish to make use of CROPWISE (via web module or smartphone app) as an employee, owner, worker or other representative of an agricultural business; or
(ii) Agronomic advisors who wish to make use of CROPWISE as part of a service they provide to their end customers.
CROPWISE is offered only to business users, acting on behalf of their business, which is either a company, a sole trader or another form of business entity. CROPWISE is not made available to consumers.
2. Categories of Ag Data Collected
What categories of data does the data platform collect?
Agronomic Data.
Farm Management Data.
Land Data.
Machine Data.
Weather and Climate Data.
Growers and agronomic advisors control what information they input into CROPWISE. Information which may be entered into CROPWISE depends on the particular CROPWISE feature which is being utilized. Generally speaking, information which may be entered can include information about the farm business, field location, maps, boundaries, information about local weather or climatic conditions, drill date, emergence date, field-specific application times, last treatment date, field zone-specific application scripts for crop protection products, agronomic practices, crop losses, crop yields, in-field observations, photos, field-specific growth stages, previous applications of crop protection products and selected thresholds (e.g. for pest, disease or weed pressure).

3. Ownership
Do the tech company’s agreements with the user address ownership of user data?
Yes. Syngenta clearly specifies in the CROPWISE terms and conditions that, as between the user and Syngenta, the user owns the information which they upload, input, transmit, store or otherwise make available through CROPWISE.

4. Transparency in Aggregation
Does the tech company allow the user to opt out of inclusion in anonymized and aggregated datasets that are accessible by other users?
No. The Terms and Conditions do not allow users to opt out of aggregated datasets. Anonymized and aggregated datasets are not accessible to other CROPWISE users.

5. Vendor Access to Data
Does the tech company require outside contractors that have access to user data to follow the tech company’s data policies?
Yes. Syngenta may disclose personal information to companies and organizations that perform services on our behalf, for example, companies that provide support services to us (such as credit card processing services, data storage services, and web hosting services) or that help us market our products and services (such as third-party e-mail marketing companies). These third parties are required by contract to use the personal information we disclose to them only to perform services on our behalf and to take commercially reasonable measures to protect the confidentiality and security of such information.

6. Consent
Does the tech company obtain a user’s consent before sharing user data with third parties? (E.g. integrations, government and others)
Yes. The user must agree to the Syngenta CROPWISE Privacy Notice and Terms and Conditions before using CROPWISE. In turn, these documents are transparent as to any disclosure of data to third parties. By accepting the Privacy Notice and Terms and Conditions, the user is consenting to the sharing of their data with third parties in the manner described in such documents (e.g. to service providers, intra-group transfers, etc.). Should Syngenta wish to share user-entered data in a manner which is not described in these documents, then Syngenta will obtain the user’s consent to such sharing. In addition, Syngenta affords all CROPWISE users with the full suite of rights afforded by applicable privacy laws, including any applicable rights to restrict the processing and sharing of personal information.

7. Consent
By signing up, does the user give the tech company the right to sell aggregated data to third parties without obtaining further consent?
No. Syngenta does not sell aggregated or otherwise anonymized personal data collected through CROPWISE.

8. Portability
Does the tech company maintain an original copy of user data that can be retrieved or deleted upon a user’s request?
Yes. User data can be retrieved, deleted and made portable on a customer request basis. Syngenta maintains an original copy of user data to the extent required by law and in accordance with Syngenta’s data retention policies.

9. Data Security
Will the tech company notify the user if a breach of data security causes disclosure of the user’s data to an outside party?
Yes. Syngenta will notify the user in accordance with applicable law. Syngenta takes data security very seriously and performs regular audits of our systems and processes to help ensure that we are aware of potential and/or actual breaches.

10. Notice
Will the tech company notify the user when data agreements are changed and summarize how the agreements were changed?
Yes. When the Privacy Statement and/or the terms and conditions of CROPWISE are changed, the user will be prompted to accept or reject the revised provisions.

11. Changes in Company Ownership
Do the tech company’s data agreements address what happens to user data if the tech company is sold to another company?
Yes. The Privacy Statement clearly indicates that the user’s personal information may be transferred to a company that has acquired the stock or assets of Syngenta, one of our affiliates, or one of our businesses (for example, as the result of a sale, merger, reorganization or liquidation). If such a transfer occurs, the acquiring company's use of the user’s personal information will still be subject to the Privacy Statement and the privacy preferences that the user has expressed to us.
