LogiAg Modeling Safe and Secure Data Practices for 15 Years

For a company with access to 15 years’ worth of historical data on thousands of farms, data security is of utmost importance. LogiAg, an agricultural technology company based out of Quebec, has never had any issues with data security, and this is thanks to diligent steps of insurance the company has taken. A few years back, wanting to communicate the priority placed on data security to the farming community, LogiAg decided to become Ag Data Transparent Certified. According to co-founder Jacques Nault, this ADT Certification means farmers can rest assured that the data they provide is safe and will not be used or sold for any purpose other than what each farmer allows.

LogiAg was founded in 1999 for the purpose of building technology products to increase efficiency for farming operations and other companies that serve farming operations. When the decision was made to venture into LogiAg, Nault was working as an independent agronomist serving 100 clients using only excel and word documents. Seeing that this was not a sustainable process, Nault teamed up with Charles Nault to develop practices that would be sustainable. Streamlined processes thanks to information technologies incorporated into the technology product allowed for an immediate increase in customers, with numbers jumping from 150 to 1,500 from 2001 to 2005.

Today, LogiAg has grown to serve more than 5,500 farms through their network of organizations. LogiAg offers services direct to farmers including nutrient management plans, drainage and erosion control plans, and documents for preparation and leadership for farm projects requiring municipal and provincial permits and authorization. Additionally, they work toward continuous solutions on a larger scale by offering software system development to organizations.

“I think what is unique [about us] is that our agronomy and field team is the main ‘client’ to our software and system development team,” explains Nault. “This has allowed us to offer high quality services to our direct farmers clients and to export this model to other major organizations.”

As LogiAg continues to serve as a model for other major organizations in the agriculture world, their data transparency will continue to grow the name of Ag Data Transparent in areas where it is less known and, more importantly, will continue to grow clear communication in regards to the handling of data throughout the industry. “The ADT certification is not very well known within the Québec farming community,” explains Nault, “However the question of what we do with the data comes up often enough and we point out about the ADT certification. We believe the respect for farm data is an issue and [ADT Certification] will help us continue to be trusted by our customers.”
