2. Categories of Ag Data Collected

What categories of data does the data platform collect?  

  • Agronomic Data 

  • Farm Management Data                               

  • Land Data

Our platform is used to calculate carbon credits and provide agronomic recommendations. In order to do this we may collect related data including relevant location data, satellite imagery data, photographs, agronomic data, map data, recording, and information about how the carbon offsets were generated, and information available from public sources including land registries, records databases and government agencies.. In addition to that we pull weather and climate data for their land locations using third party services.
In the future we will be connecting to equipment providers like John Deere to also pull data about seeding and fertilization.

3. Ownership

Do the tech company’s agreements with the user address ownership of user data? 

Yes. The user retains ownership of entered data and CarbonTerra gains ownership of any aggregated data products that may get created.

4. Transparency in Aggregation

Does the tech company allow the user to opt out of inclusion in anonymized and aggregated datasets that are accessible by other users? 

Not applicable. Anonymized and aggregated datasets are created but are used for internal model training and potentially to make decisions internally within the company about things like what improvements to make. None of these datasets are ever accessible by other users.

5. Vendor Access to Data

Does the tech company require outside contractors that have access to user data to follow the tech company’s data policies? 

Not applicable. Outside contractors will not be working with any private user data. Only data that is made public will be accessed by contractors.

6. Consent

Does the tech company obtain a user’s consent before sharing user data with third parties? (E.g. integrations, government and others)

Yes. CarbonTerra shall not provide your user data to any third party without your consent, except for those third parties necessary to provide the services.

7. Consent

By signing up, does the user give the tech company the right to sell aggregated data to third parties without obtaining further consent?

Yes, although CarbonTerra does not currently sell aggregated data to third parties.  Aggregated Data is defined in CarbonTerra’s Terms of Use as not identifiable to a person or company.

8. Portability 

Does the tech company maintain an original copy of user data that can be retrieved or deleted upon a user’s request? 

Yes. Data is all stored securely in our database systems and a user can request to either access it or have it deleted.

9. Data Security

Will the tech company notify the user if a breach of data security causes disclosure of the user’s data to an outside party?  

Yes, this will be sent to the email under which the account is created.

Will the tech company notify the user when data agreements are changed and summarize how the agreements were changed?

11. Changes in Company Ownership

Do the tech company’s data agreements address what happens to user data if the tech company is sold to another company?

Yes. If the company is sold the data will be transferred over to the new company.
